One of the best ways to grow as a photographer is to keep looking, experimenting and giving yourself reasons to pick up the camera. Our weekly photography challenges are designed to do exactly that.
Each week, we introduce a new theme and invite photographers to interpret it in their own way. There are no right or wrong approaches and no restrictions on genre. A simple theme such as Water, Reflections or Patterns can lead to completely different images depending on who is behind the camera.
Working with a theme is also a great exercise in training the photographic eye. Instead of waiting for an obvious photograph to appear, you begin actively searching for possibilities: noticing light, colour, shapes, relationships and small details that you might normally walk straight past. The more we practise looking, the more we tend to see.
Just as valuable is seeing how other photographers respond to exactly the same prompt. Someone else may notice a subject, angle or interpretation that would never have occurred to you. Exploring these different perspectives can be a wonderful source of inspiration and a reminder that photography is as much about how we see as what we photograph.
